SteamPunk Halloween

So this year's company Halloween party theme was "Halloween in a time machine". Mo and I decided on doing some steampunk costumes... mainly because we were excited to make some steampunk guns as a kitbashing project..

So we started with some Nerf guns, and through using some model kits, some hardware parts and lightbulbs etc. This is how my gun turned out:

Nerf gun with some basic parts added. We based it in silver paint.

I chose parts I wanted to be burnt orange and gold.

Final product... Added the remaining paint, and all the extras.

It was a fun project! Soon I'll be linking you to Mo's gun, which is most equally awesome :D

My Birthday Halloween Haunt Event

So I met this awesome group of people in my life recently, who happen to be as into Halloween as I am. Last year they hosted a Halloween Haunt event at their house, transforming it from home to disturbing maze, and I got to go through it.

This year, we decided to merge the two events, my birthday, and a horror maze. Mo and I set off to write a great Haunted maze story and the plan was to shoot a trailer for it, as well as a teaser. We got said awesome group of people together once again this year to do the shoot. And this is what we made.

All Lighting was done by Mark and Moragot, all set design done my myself and Moragot, Make up and prosthetics done by Kelly Marie, and all characters brought their own character costumes.

It was fun working on these. Can't wait for the event to happen! :)

Wolverine Crew Gear

So as we do, every time we finish a film, we make ourselves some exclusive merchandise for all the people involved in the digital crew. We all get a chance to submit our designs, so with some spare time, I decided to give it a bash. 

It turned out my design got voted to be the Weta's crew gear for The Wolverine (2013)!! So it's been made into some cool t-shirts and a rad red hoodie :D so here it is on display:

City Monster

This time I thought I'd try out something I'd never done before.... Creating a monster design of my own... It took some experimentation, but in the end it was quite fun coming up with a mash up of designs I really liked. Originally, the idea wast to create a contrast, presenting a monster in a lighthearted manner, or a setting that would contradict the existence of the monster (eg, in a suburban neighborhood).
With this theme in mind, Moragot and I decided to try it out. My idea developed, however, with the monster's appearance being quite angry/frightening, I changed the setting to still include a pet, but in a darker and scarier setting... the dingy streets of a city.

 I'm a big fan of Portal. Getting back into digital sketching seemed like the perfect opportunity to do some fan art. I'm still using the 'Procreate' app on my iPad, which has a nifty new feature which automatically records a Timelapse of your drawing.

So here I present the final picture and its timelapse. Hope you enjoy!!

Sentries and Soldiers

Mo and I decided to take kitbashing to a whole new level!
Buying model parts ranging from tanks and planes, to ships and podracers, we assembled them all to create our very own robots.

Final kitbashed models would be coated in one layer of silver paint, and then a layer of white base paint.

Back after 8 years: A study of Mo

It's been a long time since I've been submersed in art. 8 years roughly...
Being surrounded by creative people has helped spark the desire to create again, and to get into it, I have started with some digital art done on my iPad.

Using an app called "Procreate", I was able to get back into sketching and practising my line work. With some helpful hints from Mo, this is what was born :)
