X-wing model kits

Here's a fun way to pass the time with some nerdy friends. 3 of us decided to buy 1/48th scale Fine Mold x-wing model kits and build them together every Tuesday night at our place. Where my friend, Derrick, and I chose to go more traditional design, Mo tried out a new x-wing paint design (which you might see cropped up in some of these photos).
But here are some progress photos of our little project. Ending off with a video which contains more detailed footage of the x-wing progress.

The first steps pretty much involved 2 sessions of building the model. and then we laid down a coat of primer, and then silver. The idea is that once you've painted the colours on, you can scratch away the top paint to reveal the silver underneath, giving the impression of metal.

We then proceeded to paint on the first coat of off-white. The model kit comes with some decals which we placed on. This gives you a clean version of the model. But we wanted to go one step further from this and weather it.

Finished Model.

This thing got scraped, hit with lasers and weathered by smoke and dust. I wanted it to look like it had seen adventure in space on many an occasion. This is the finished product.

Summer Mechs

I was approached to design the album art for rainstormer.net, a new trip-hop, experimental hip-hop collective. Liking the winter mechs I had previously made, I was asked to create the same thing within a more summery situation. I gave two options, using my old mech. Check them out here:

Mechs 2.0

Mo and I took a second bash at creating even bigger and better mechs.
Once again, using various model kits from tanks, to planes, to motorcycles and ships, we managed to bash all the pieces together to create an orginal design.

Taking it a step further, we shopped them into moody backgrounds to bring them to life... Hope  you enjoy :)

SteamPunk Halloween

So this year's company Halloween party theme was "Halloween in a time machine". Mo and I decided on doing some steampunk costumes... mainly because we were excited to make some steampunk guns as a kitbashing project..

So we started with some Nerf guns, and through using some model kits, some hardware parts and lightbulbs etc. This is how my gun turned out:

Nerf gun with some basic parts added. We based it in silver paint.

I chose parts I wanted to be burnt orange and gold.

Final product... Added the remaining paint, and all the extras.

It was a fun project! Soon I'll be linking you to Mo's gun, which is most equally awesome :D

Sentries and Soldiers

Mo and I decided to take kitbashing to a whole new level!
Buying model parts ranging from tanks and planes, to ships and podracers, we assembled them all to create our very own robots.

Final kitbashed models would be coated in one layer of silver paint, and then a layer of white base paint.
